COVID-19 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WELL-BEING STUDY (CISWS)

Institute for comparative social research (CESSI) in cooperation with scientists from 25 other research centers of Europe conducted the survey about the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic on economic, educational and socio-pshycological aspects of student’s life. The results of this survey will be important information tool for establishing protective measures and the organizing educational process in the future.

The uniqueness of the project is the simultaneous data collection in time of the event (pandemia) and in many countries of the world. For the first time researchers have the opportunity to study global social changes right in time when this rapid changes occurs and in many other countries at once.

RESEARCH PURPOSE AND TASKS

The purpose of the survey is to obtain new knowledge and information about the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and different guarantee and protective measures on national, regional and organizational (university) level on educational, labor, interpersonal and psychological aspects of student’s life in comparative cross-national contexts. 

Among the survey tasks are the study of the impact of COVID-19 and guarantee measures adopted in educational institutions on:

  • Living conditions of students in different countries – housing, infrastructural, economic and social

  • Psychological wellbeing of students including the level of stress, optimism, mental health.

  • Educational process – forms of interaction between teachers and students, educational workload, interpersonal student’s cooperation.

ORGANIZATION OF THE SURVEY

International survey of student’s on coronavirus (ISSC) is academic comparative cross-national survey coordinated by the consortium of universities (University of Gent, University of Antwerp and some others).

Countries-participants: 25 countries including 20 countries of Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Israel, Turkey, Canada and Republic or South Africa.

METHODS

Target group: full-time students of high educational institutions of all levels (bachelor, master, postgraduate programs)

Sample: national survey of students or the survey among students of largest universities in the country. The survey in Russia is based on national sample.

Sample size: different in every country and depends on the organizational resources and type of sample. In Russia 2700 respondents participated in the survey.

Method of survey administration: online self-completed interview about 20 min long on centralized web-platforms for some countries and independently on local platform in some others (including Russia).

Questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed by International scientific committee from all countries-participants and translated on all languages of participating countries.

RESULTS

Preliminary results of the survey will be published in the next weeks. 
Final results and comparative analysis will be published after the end of the survey in all c countries – in the beginning of July 2020.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF C19 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WELL-BEING STUDY (ISWS) IN RUSSIA

The survey of full-time students of Russian high education institutions  were conducted by CESSI in May 2020 as online self-completed interviews of 2600 respondents. 

This study is part of  C19 ISWS. C19 ISWS is the result of a study design, study protocol and questionnaire developed by a team of the University of Antwerp, Belgium (prof. S. Van de Velde, dr. V. Buffel , prof. E. Wouters)
